The proposed route of the Tuam bypass was surveyed using a caesium magnetometer and magnetic susceptibility meter. The client required the latter in order to show possible zones of archaeological activity, with the magnetometry detecting discrete features. The only magnetometry anomalies of potential archaeological interest were agricultural. The magnetic susceptibility readings were generally very low, meaning that factors such as variable improvement of the land had a dominant effect.
