Campus International Tigre 32/64/256 Electrical Profiler

The Tigre is one of a family of instruments that are essentially electrical resistance meters with large arrays of multiplexed probes. It is usual to use probes in sets of four, often in the Wenner configuration & by increasing the separation of the probes the resistance data obtained is sensitised to increasing depths. After assembling a long array of these probes the instrument is set up to automatically work through a large number of different combinations, building up a pseudosection through the ground. This is a 2D slice which can be inverted quite successfully to produce a model of the resistivities of the different materials in the ground.

A development of the technique is to use a 2D array of probes in the same fashion but with probe combinations selected in 2D to produce a 3D block of data.

In the picture shown a 2D survey is in progress with 64 probes fairly closely spaced to provide maximum depth resolution within 3m of the surface. The instrument can power up to 256, assuming one has the patience to insert them all!
